So i am just wondering is it better to shoot in Color then change in software to b&w or to just shoot in B&W to start with ?

I've always thought that it's better to shoot in colour then convert to b&w. Because it's a lot harder when you shoot in b&w and wish you had them in colour..

Alternatively, you could just do both :P

Why shoot in anything but RAW?

I usually shoot in RAW+jpeg, and sometimes have those jpegs set to b&w, but there's ALWAYS a digital negative sitting there behind it.

Shoot in raw and colour.

Gives you the flexibility to convert to B+W if you wish. Also no data is lost.

Also, don't bother with B&W photos if you don't know about how the various colour channels affect the image.

Making a great B&W shot isn't as easy as ticking the greyscale box.

This addon does a lot of the hard work for you, and creates some amazing results.

Turned this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rick0r/4224385388/in/set-72157622966414409) into this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rick0r/4285779093/in/set-72157623457702623)

(the colour shot there is actually heavily edited also, the B&W was created from the origional RAW using the SilverFxPro plugin)

You'd be suprised at the number of "wedding photographers" that do just that :(
