There are 3 rolling shots i can think off.

Rig rolling shots - you will need to attach your camera to you car via a rig mounted. Taken at slow shutterspeeds as you push the car.

Panning rolling shots - you pan with the moving car.

In car rolling shots - i.e you are in another car moving shooting a moving car.

I've only really tried panning, and cant remember the settings. You must find the balance between blurring the background, and wheel movement without blurring the car. Trial and error really and making sure you have the right exposure as well.

EGD and Cory Varcoe seem to have rig shots nailed. Looking foward to their response.

If you want to pan, I think that 1/125 is a good shutter speed and a medium aperture setting, maybe f8 or something like that. When you take the photo, just make sure that your panning is at the same speed as the car. Should work, I think (:

I use anywhere between 1/60th and 1/200th depending on conditions.

The most important thing is to keep the camera lined up with the vehicle.

Just get to a track and practice tracking again and again...

For panning i find it depends on the speed of your subject. If they are moving really fast then panning at 1/150 is pretty good but the slower they are the slower the shutter. But there is an exception to every rule, i shot @ 1/20 for drift cars and the other day i was shooting @ 1/30 at the drags when the cars were launching

Most of my drift shots are between 1/125 and 1/180...

Stic; those drift shots are excellent. I really need to find some kind of calendar listing events at the Taupo track so I can go there when drifting is on :)
