Im getting the huge lens and a friend of mine is getting the underwater housing.
I dont want to pay mega bucks, would consider second hand lens but im not sure what to get. i have a canon 450d what lens do you think would be good to start with? At the moment I only have the standard 75-300 zoom lens that came in the twin lens pack.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if your selling one, Even better!

Cheers, Joel

I think its all down to your budget, and what you shoot...
I'd think a f2.8 or faster lens will be best underwater...
however on the cheap,
I'd recomand a 50mm f1.4 for low light underwater...
or a 85 f1.8 for a slightly longer range...
and if you got to roll with some f4 and slower lenses perhaps some under water light or flash system would help save the day..

For surf photography,
if you are shooting from the beach, id look at a minimum of a 300f4, or sigma 100-300 f4 , both can be found for about $1000- 1300 second hand.
Or you can to get a 100-300f5.6L for about $300-500 although the focus is about as slow as the 75-300 , but better image quality.
The first two will take a teleconverter, which you will probably need as well.

For in the water , you need a wide lens 20mm at least , set it to a narrow aperture ie f11-16 to get a large depth of field , and preset the focus and leave it.

I hope this helps with your decisions.
