awesome to see so many entries! However, there is only two that actually have Bokeh (plus a possible third) - the others just have shallow DoF. 14 and 2 hae bokeh and possibley 16.

they all have bokeh, 14 and 2 have a hollywood style.

bokeh is just a fancy word for blur, which all these pictures have, which is best achieved with a shallow DOF.

I understand bokeh refers to the aethetics of the blur ie the circles (or in #2 case the stars) in the blur

Bokeh is often most visible around small background highlights, such as specular reflections and light sources, which is why it often associated with such areas. However, bokeh is not limited to highlights, as blur occurs in all out-of-focus regions of the image.

i read it as, light sorces make bokeh stand out, but any out of focus is is still bokeh.
good or bad bokeh is dependent on how it looks to the eye

The wiki article states bokeh is "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light" (which is actually cited from PhotoGuide Japan)
So I would tend to agree with Nathan. But then for an example picture, like smurff says, there is just shallow dof on some text.
Again, like Nathan, I think the true heart of bokeh is the result from out of focus light sources as well demonstrated in no. 2 and 14. I voted accordingly.

Interesting debate on bokeh. I guess it's quite subjective? Perhaps art has no definition.

Anyway, it's up to the participant to submit whatever photo they like, but the objective is to challenge the participant to taking a new photo.

I'll be away for the weekend and highly unlikely to have internet access so congrats in advance to the winner. Feel free to reveal yourself after the poll has closed. And thanks again to everyone who made the effort to submit an entry.

Congratulations to Gerrit who submitted photo 14.

It's nice to see some evenly spread votes although it would have been nice to have more voters. Only 27 people voted.

But the positive note is that so many people submitted entries so good on you guys!
