So I've got a Polaroid camera or three. Other than as the actual physical prints I'd also like to be able to back them up or even just share them on-line, so I figure I need a scanner that can handle glossy, richly-coloured photos accurately.

Anyone got any recommendations of ones to get or to avoid?

Other than that, Dad gave me his older-than-me 35mm Canon AT SLR (which I've got a couple of lenses for) and enlarger etc for home-darkroom development (might end up being lazy and just get them developed rather than making a darkroom area, but we'll see), plus I've also got a 120-film toy camera on the way, so film capabilities for the scanner are preferable.

The default recommendation seems to be the Epson V700, but I was hoping to spend well less than the $900+ price-point it seems to be at.

I suggest comparing the price of a decent scanner with the cost of getting the scans done professionally - it may be more cost effective to go that route.

I've been developing negatives at home lately and I've been using a very cheap scanner (canon LiDE 25) just for sharing the results (screens are only 72dpi) with the intention of getting professional scans done later when I have a couple of hours worth.
