Hey we should try something. A few members here have expressed their lack of inspiration when they want to take photos. Others have also commented that people aren't posting enough photos up on the forum. This may be because of lack of time but most probably the lack of INSPIRATION.

What im going to do is spark this thread up by embedding a music video. You may have already seen the video or heard the song. Your task is to use the video to take a NEW photo inspired by the music video. Post your photos up and explain what aspect of the song inspired you to take the photo. You could be inspired by a scene, lyrics, song title, etc. It up to your imagination! Hopefully we'll see some great photos taken.

If this works out we can create new assignments once in a while.

Ok the music video. It's Fireflies by Owl City

Lyrics:
You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep

'Cause they'd fill the open air
And leave teardrops everywhere
You'd think me rude
But I would just stand and stare

I'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems

'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs
From ten thousand lightning bugs
As they tried to teach me how to dance

A foxtrot above my head
A sock hop beneath my bed
A disco ball is just hanging by a thread

I'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems
When I fall asleep

Leave my door open just a crack
(Please take me away from here)
'Cause I feel like such an insomniac
(Please take me away from here)
Why do I tire of counting sheep
(Please take me away from here)
When I'm far too tired to fall asleep

To ten million fireflies
I'm weird 'cause I hate goodbyes
I got misty eyes as they said farewell

But I'll know where several are
If my dreams get real bizarre
'Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar

I'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems
When I fall asleep

I'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems
When I fall asleep

I'd like to make myself believe
That planet earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
Because my dreams are bursting at the seams

Listening to this song just gave me a constant view of me and mates surfing, So I grabbed a mate and headed to the beach with the tripod and camera. I like the idea of these talan.

Hi all

Well I was inspired by the music video and this is what I came up with. Please keep in mind I am using a cheap camera and I am unable to change any settings. http://i1022.photobucket.com/albums/af342/catlovanz/crop_electric_globe2.jpg
and

My inspiration was the variety of lamps used that were from the 80's.

Can I please have advice on how I could have done this better or the fact that my camera is limited my main problem?

Given the specs (here (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0707/07072602fujifilmf480.asp#specs)) of what you were using, you are limited by the camera a little bit, but try the various Scene modes - "Fireworks", "Party" or "Night" seem the obvious candidates for this shot, but "Sunset" is probably a good contender too.

Also I note that both photos are at ISO 800 - is this something you set or was that the camera? Whichever it was, for low-light or high-speed situations that is the right mode to choose.

Hi thanks for your feedback :D

I have checked my camera settings and do not have fireworks, party or night options. As for the ISO 800, I am also unable to change this setting and it seems to automatically pick the ISO. Much as I would love to buy a new camera....I would have to win lotto or marry a millionaire......and neither option is going to happen ;)

I guess for the moment I can gain experience on the techniques and when I am working again full time I will save for a decent SLR.:)

Look for "Scene Mode" on your camera - the Fireworks (etc) settings are under there.

Thank you, I have found a few settings and retried the photos, although there were no fireworks settings under scenes, I did find a night setting and tried with and without the flash. This time the ISO is 200 instead of 800. I also have increased the shadows as the room was not completely dark.
