Look inside lovey. What do you like doing? Where do you like going? What is important to you in a photo, what aspects appeal to you? Line? Contrast? Rule breaking, lol?
Take an aspect and explore the crap out of it, in a gazillion ways. Find out what gets you going.
You can look around for inspiration, but truly, it comes from within.

Look at other photographers' work, visit the library - borow. Search on the net by name or subject. And take the camera and use it, even if you dump most of your results. A 5% satisfaction rate is ok. Shoot to please yourself, not other folk.

primarily my interest lies in taking photos of surfing / the ocean. sometimes (a lot of the time) there isnt any swell so its hard to be 'inspired' but i check this at least once a week and never get tired of it.

It's hard - sometimes I'm frustrated and can't shoot anything and other times it sorta just happens. Travel is my inspiration unfortunately, so that's a lot of time spent frustrated...

Theres 1440 minutes in a day.......
......Thats 86400 seconds.......in some of those captured moments a shutter speed of 1/1000 sec is perfect to capture the moment.......
......thats 60,000 1/1000 of a second in a single minute and 3600,000 1/1000s to make an hour.........
......and that can only mean that those 1,440 beautiful moments are composed of exactly 8,640,000 one thousandths.
Yikes! Every day , we, as photographers, are afforded the opportunity to freeze, in exacting sharpness, 8,640,000 action filled images. and to think that you (and I) have often lamented that you cant find anything to shoot!
There are 10 great pictures to take within 10 feet of where you are standing right now.
stop thinking about inspiration and start looking around and you will see a whole new world of photography open up to you,
