So this was on my xmas wish list but i didn't get it because the sales person at photo international said it would not support autofocus with my D60.

Well it's an AF lens (i thought this meant autofocus) and the specs list supports this.

however. I'm a little unsure of what AF-S and internal focusing affects? could anyone assure me this is the correct choice?

TIA

The sales person at photo international saved you a lot of money as the lens would not have worked on your D60 camera. Prior to the D60 Nikon built all of their camera bodies essentially the same, in that the body contained the motor that drove autofocus in the lens. When they produced the D60 in trying to reduce weight and size they removed this motor. That means that you have to buy lenses that have motors in them. That is what the S signifies. That the lens is Autofocus (AF) with a Silent Wave Motor (S).

Thanks for that, very helpful.

So, AF-S lenses are the range i should look at?

in some cases for $180 i would be happy to manual focus :)
