what we would do there i might say since it's the first meet and it's not a car meet i think is just meet up people maybe exchage numbers and things and then maybe find something to shoot. or just walk around and see how it goes lol
IF it's raining i think that we should still meet but do something cool inside??

Good idea :D the 28th is good for me - this will be in Auckland? - we could possibly set up a group on meetup.com this will also attract new members to the forum :)

I sent an email to Michael Provost the organiser of the Auckland digital photography meetup (http://www.meetup.com/The-Auckland-Digital-Photography-Meetup-Group/) asking him if he might want his group to get involved. They have about 57 members and usually around 10 people will show up to their events. Hopefully they are keen, the more the merrier :)
exactly guys! lets do something like this. and yes it will be on the 28th! Also It will be in a in-door place then we can decide or even throw up ideas here. i would like it to be somewhere around town so it will be close for everyone! also town has many spots to just shoot around.... but yeah.... lets see how we go... try to bring some more people out!! :)
i am pretty keen if i am still in auckland by then, was planning to go down to south island on 27th but hasn't confirmed the ticket yet.

Foodtown carpark in the city? being central, easy to find and plenty of carpark space.

whats around that location to shoot? and do they get antsy about ppl parking there who arent shopping? 3 weeks ago i watched someone's car get towed out of a supermarket carpark for that exact thing...
that's downtown.... some city scapes and things like that..........

hmm. be good to maybe come up with a specific location or two? some interesting buildings or such?
Okay, here are the ones i have in mind:
1) Somewhere around Princess Wharf - a whole lot of nice locations around there before sunset and after....
2) Some beach possibly mission bay of even Pt. Chev (personal favourite) it is close to town then we can possibly do some sort of a sunset thing...
3) Domain and winter garden?
The meet would be after mid-day.... either for the afternoon or something or just a little before sunset.
those are my ideas... i would like to finalise this by prtobably sat/sun this weekend so that we will have a week to have everyone see the location / times as apposed to having to decide on the last minute!

OK,
Hopefully the weather will hold up tommorow. If its foggy like today we may get some quite surreal shots.
We will still meet at the proposed location whatever the weather is like. If it's raining we can go to the museum or something like that. Maybe bring some warm clothes and crappy shoes if we go walkabouts on the grass.
2PM!

it went good actually!
we've decided that we'll have another meeting in 2weeks time.
Haim also suggested that we should all head out one day/night to shoot something all together at the same time. should be fun :D
I'll post some photos from today in the other topic folders and link it.

What shutter speed were you using? i have read a decent topic about lightening photography once, and the guy was sayin use small aperture with really long shutter speed (ajust ur iso to suit) and just wait for the best :p

i had a quick look on some random website to find out what settings are best.
They said use low ISO 4 - 8 aperture and 30 seconds - bulb exposure
I tried this and got a couple shots with the lightning in it, but it just looked over exposed and i couldn't see the lightening bolt... possibly because of the fog?
it was real nice to meet everyone.... especially david and talan.....any way.... i didnt really get cool photos... i was more concentrating on talking to people i guess.... the next meet is in two weeks. i'll open a new thread!
