first one is very nice.

it would have been nice to see the very front of the boat in the second one, still really nice though

It's always been a bit akward - just couldn't get a better position unfortunately. I have one with the front included, but the picture loses focus a bit...

And landscapes aren't actually in black and white either ;)

No they are not... but this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/haimsadia/4111310826/) is for example the same kind of cloud i'm talking about

I had no idea clouds were actually white. My apologies. I will delete the photograph...

Ahhhhh man - You are getting me all wrong. No need to be sarcastic - and definitely don't take it down lol.

It's your photo/ your taste/ your way of choosing the WB..... All i was doing is saying that the WB was wrong.... WB is there to make what's supposed to be white, white.

I like them both... (I stared at it for ages though before working out that the boat was not on the road, like I thought - that is me being a simpleton tho, lol...)

I don't fully understand white balance (I know, a shocking gap in knowledge!) and would be keen to see what it would look like altered. (I will go do a search - promise! To get my head around it...) But I think I really like the colours as they are... Makes it look surreal and city like...

I suggest looking at the boat, which is white. Yes, I've slightly exagerated the warmth, but the alternative is a green boat

So like I said, there is no wrong, just interpretations and artistic choices :p

The problem in thhis photo which is out of your hands is that there are several different lamps with different colour temperatures i.e. one on your boat others are in the background.....

secondly... i've noticed youare shooting the D300s... what made you choose that camera ? ( if you dont mind me asking....)

Yeah it's rough at night :td: pretty though hehe

had a D50 for 4 years and decided I've had enough of the limitations. Basically I had to decide if a D90 would be enough and if a D700 would be too much. I have a good set of lenses at the moment, and going to the D700 would have been too prohibitive in terms of getting full frame equivalents of my 17-50 f/2.8 and 10-20. I dont shoot high ISo very often, so the gains of the D700 wouldn't have been realised anyway :) SO go the D300 because I'mm tired of having to touch menus - physical buttons for the win + 100% viewfinder

wow, this is the most talking on this site in a long time!! :P

i say never take down a photo, rather, make changes with peoples thoughts (if you can be botherd ) then post them up, then every one knows what everyone is talking about more, and we can all learn something :D

ps, i still ike both photos, WB or not lol

Excatly, its great for us novices to see how it works etc... I admit the whole white balance thing had me confused too!

Technically speaking, white balance is only ever right or wrong, but as has already been said, in a pic like that with multiple light sources it is usually impossible to get all areas of the photo looking 'right'.

That said, I like the photo a lot and I think the OP made the right choice in terms of the colour - personally I'm a fan of the purple sky and the boat is looking good.
