Don't laugh haha. So i got my hands on some fluorescents, man they create nice dispersed lighting!
Anyway, i had my 1st shot at light painting, used about 5 exposures i think. I want to do my car next but i have no good locations with power :(
C&C please!

I was expecting something like this http://images.google.co.nz/images?q=light+painting&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=G5IES4ilD4LQtAPgmeDiCA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBMQsAQwAA
so I was disappointed is all :(:p:p

well, if you look at the photo it has about 3 different light sources + one that lit the wall better.
one flat light source:

Processed with 5ish exposures:

I Don't have any strobes at the mo and i know in video i could light it similar to this. As i said, first time. I will move on to more exiting and complicated things. In my bedroom with a teddy and a light is what makes this haha.
Ans why wouldn't i like to use this technique on a car?. Many proffesionals have done that and it is a fantastic effect.

I think we have different definitions of what 'light painting' is :p See my link above.
I can't see the pictures in your last post until i get home this evening. Sorry for the misunderstanding! - I look forward to seeing what you did there :)
It's hard to spot the light sources tbh - I get a similar effect with a SB600 and a Gary Fong Lightsphere/diffuser. LIke I said though - I dont fully understand what you did here so I'm going to stop diggin myself into a big hole :embarrassed:

Hmm, I managed to load that one. Is it like HDR on steroids?

you light each element of your subject individually and take a photo, and you then combine them all in photoshop.
at night time, he would, for example light a seat, take a photo, light the other seat, take a photo, light the flowers, take a photo.
so he gets back with hundreds and hundreds of photographs and just blends them together.
You need a lot of patience ;)

ok, so you set the camera up, and just light the subject from different places to in a way highlight it?
i may have to give this ago :D
can it be done with a speedlight or will i need to use my studio flashes?

you can use anything. But, where ever you go, take a flash light because you always have to work in the dark haha.

that chair looks awesome !
Cory Varcoe's got some awesome examples of car shots http://www.flickr.com/photos/34999025@N05/3909603156/in/set-72157622345664132/

Cheers Hybrid!!
Yeah as Deviant said thats only one form of light painting, though to me, light painting is "painting with light" so that would mean painting the subject with light not using an LED to leave light trails in the exposure. Saying that, i love that sort of thing aswell :D
Anyway, loving the shot of the bear Deviant  and the chair is nicely lit

cheers Cory. Yea, i haven't had the chance to move on to anything bigger yet and the car i was going to attempt it on is black so may be quite difficult lol.

Um yes and no. Yes because the technique will have to be very different. And no because if done right the image should just fall together :D
