Hi Everyone:

As some of you notice, I have posted several threads about getting a camera, I have selected Nikon D90 as my first DSLR camera.

I have been google on advices of buying lenses, and i have found this website, which provide suggestions on the types of Nikon lenses and and the purpose it serve.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/dx-dream-team.htm#tele

Under the sub title of "The Dream Team", the author Ken recommended three lenses would be enough, these are 1. Wide zoom (Nikon 18-24mm) 2. Tele Zoom (Nikon 55-200mm VR) 3. A fast fixed lenses (Nikon 35mm f1.8).

Here are my questions:

1. What do you think about the dream team stated by Kent?

2. I had a look on several different sources, it seem the Pack Deal only either go with a 18-105mm or the 18-200mm lenses, if the dream team makes a perfect photography package, is that mean i have to buy the body, and then buy the lenses individually, would that sound very expensive? Anyone knows the price of those three lenses if purchased individually?

Many Thanks
Jacky

I just had a quick look for the lenses you were talking about , 55-200vr $520, 35f1.8 $450, the 10-24 is about $1900.
All prices from Photo and video in Christchurch, they are very good to deal with, and are happy to answer question you might have.

When buying a camera, i prefer to get a body only then getting the lenses i require , that suits my needs.
Normally "kit" lens arent the best quaility, although Nikon and Canon are offering more and better options than previously.

The choice of lenses has really more to do with what you want to photograph, than a discussion of the equipment itself. I originally had a D50 with a 18-55mm lens and a 70-300mm lens. This was really a pain of a combination because you seemed to always end up with the wrong lense on the camera. When I bought my D90 I bought it with the 18-105mm lens and it is a great lense. If I had the choice I would have bought the 18-200mm lenses because that would give me a greater range.

Now while this lense is great for outdoor shots I mainly ended up following indoor sports and a few weddings and found that it would not allow me to have a sufficent shutter speed to freeze the action. I eventually bit the bullet and bought a 70-200mm F2.8 lense that I absolutely love and it has become my main lense.

Jacky,

Im a canon shooter, and shot a lot of sports. So i know pretty much nothing about Nikon lenses, except if I was a nikon shooter id have a 200-400f4 and a d300 or d3.

Jacky,

Although Ken Rockwell writes some good stuff he also writes a lot of rubbish too. He is not to be taken too seriously as he even admits that himself - basically he's after donations. Possibly the best professional reviewer of Nikon lenses is Bjorn Rorslett. http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_surv.html
