Tui's have been nesting in the kowhai tree at the back of my house for the last couple of weeks but I've had a hard time getting a good shot of them as they tend to hide behind all the blossoms.
Getting hold of my new 40d and 70-300 spurred me into action and I took this shot:

Nice shot mate but it needs some tweaking, Your blacks aren't black and the colours are quite flat. Need to play with the curves, and maybe give it a touch more saturation, Ill have a go when I get home.

Heh I usually find my blacks are ok because I'm underexposing a few stops to deal with the severely asymmetrical dynamic range, C'est la vie.
Find more and more I am shooting film tho, less distractions, smaller and lighter gear for the same IQ.
Speaking of Tuis, there was one within touching distance outside my office window here at uni a few weeks ago, so then I started bringing my SLR so I could get a nice closeup, and havn't seen in since lol.
