Hi all,

Coincidently, I have heard about another photography competition so I've decided that we can tie in our competition with the 3rd party and people who wish to enter the 3rd party competition may do so. There's good prizes in there too!

OK here is the rundown...

The University of Auckland is running their Alumni Photography Competition 2009 (http://www.alumni.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/home/alumni/af-benefits-and-services/alumniphotographycompetition2009). This competition is for Alumni Graduates only so you can only enter their competition if you a graduate of the University of Auckland. There are some great prizes with 1st prize being a Nikon D5000 DSLR Camera. So please, if you are eligible to enter then go for it and find the entry details on their page! Make sure you read their rules carefully though.

So for us to tie-in with their competition we will use the same theme!

The theme is: 'the expression of who we are'

Closing date for entry: 23 October 2009 (12 noon) - this is the same cut-off time for the U of A competition

Submit entries to: admin@photographersonline.co.nz - Please include your real name as well as your forum user name.

Remember, you must be registered (http://www.photographersonline.co.nz/register.php) to the forum to enter. Photos must be no larger than 800 x 800, must not contain any watermarks or identification, and please try to go out and take a new photo rather than digging an old one out of the closet. Remember the competition is to help you improve your skills and interpretation of the topic.

I've donated a prize too! It's a brand new Cascade Fat Free Griller (a little irrelevant to photography I know) RRP $49.99

Entries will be posted up by David or myself and the entrants' names will be anonymous. A public poll on the forum will commence when I get around to posting the entries up on the forum and will run for approximately a week. The winner will be announced shortly after the polls closed and I will get in contact with the winner to get the griller couriered to their door.

Umm, the T&C's are pretty much common sense. This is a prize donated out of my own pocket, not some company so don't sue me, please :D. I can only send the prize within NZ.

Good luck for both the Photographers Online NZ competition and the University of Auckland competition if you are entering that also! I sense this competition is going to be HUGE.

Is there a minimum amount of posts before you can PM?

FYI, one cool idea is for the winner of the previous competition to come up with five choices, and then for the present competition, people PM not only their entry for the comp, but also their vote for the next comps topic.

No. We've been having some teething issues with database errors on the forum so that may have caused the PM to be lost.

Hmm that's a good idea but could be a little complicated to co-ordinate? Someone suggested we should use a Halloween theme since the timings of the next competition should coincide smack-bang through Halloween?

I'll have a think about it. The winner of this competition will not choose the theme, the winner is getting a prize. I have updated the original post with the prize.

Cheers,
Talan

such a hard theme - I went out for about 4 hrs on wednesday morning before class, trying to come up with something.... plus not a whole not of motivation because im still an undergrad so cant enter the Uni one (and win a dSLR booyah), and dont really fancy a meat grill haha - not to knock the prize - a prize is a prize

Big problem for me is lack of a model/willing subject, and havent got the balls for candid photos (had a bad experience two years ago, and lost my nerve)

EDIT: wahoo I got myself a model - little brother is willing and he's a drama geek, so probably best bet for someone like me, who doesnt have alot of experience with model direction. Plus its my brother I can bitch etc and not worry about etiquette lol.

Nathan, how about some street photography? No models needed to be arranged, just snap some people from the street :)
