Have a look here this is a good site for really comprehensive reviews on all canon gear.
Tiltshift lenses are really cool but hard to explain. have a look thru the pics here and youl get it. this a review on the super expency new 24mm tilfshift lens that came out this year.
I want one!

tilt shifts are useful for architecture, where you want wide angle view but dont want distortion... ie want vertical lines in architechture, but have to be really close for photo.....

USefule for other things too, but that is like the 'cliche' use of a tilt-shift
