I have just realised over the last couple of months that I want to be photographer as my career.
But when I leave highschool I have no clue how to start this.
to either become an assistant or go to uni and do a course.

Heres the thing.

I dont know where to go to become or ask to be an assistant.
and If I go to uni how will that help me get a job?

Id look at doing a business course, because if you cant run a business, no matter how good a photographer you will likely fail.

Yeah, you will need business savvy to succeed, and I would have to say that you would be better off getting experience as an assistant rather than going to uni.

Id say go be an assistant too , I did that when i was learning web design /graphic design , i started when i was about 14 in school i would go to the studio every day after school when i was old enough around 17 i did a part time business management course for about 9 months it gave me really good ground

I was at studio i got more and more responsibility then finally went away on my own , i loved it meet alot of people learned alot of things , then i changed career and started running resturants :) which is my true passion ( chef )

from what they have said, become an assistant, and do part time business course, to help you succeed, best of both worlds maby?

Im not sure if I have the qualifications to get the entrance for a buisness studies course.
And what if the 2 collide?

there is always things like studying from home, you can usually do most courses that way, i know unitech have a flexable study option for some of there courses.

and there is usually a entry course that will then get you into your course, providing you pass that is.

And letters of recommendation also help you , from teachers or from the person who you are assisting

I am working through school for a proffesional photographer called Richard Leonard.
Do you reckon at the end I should get a reccomendation from him?

Wouldn't hurt that's how i got into uni at such a young age :)

Iv had friends do the work from home courses too they are pretty flexible , before i went to uni to do my media arts study's i did my management course from home about 2 hours work a week and went in to campus every 3 months to sit exams
