Not looking for some exact numbers, would be nice to just get a range. How much $ per hour do photographers charge out in NZ?
$100-$500? More, less?

From what iv seen it very's on the photographer , there are people that charge around 150+ and hr and others that charge 400-800 for a 2 hour session then there is wedding packages too 1,000 4,000
Some people charge for travel , And iv also seen people charge for retouching there photos they have take
Iv asked a few photographers how much to charge ( i like to research alot on my hobbies ) and the answer i got from most of them said " Thats A Hard One " and it was there hardest thing they had to do was pick prices.
I was going to add you pick to low it doesn't show much you go to high you might not get many people ( but that's why you have a portfolio )
Iv also seen photographers drop there prices in these tough times

The best method isn't to base it on what other people charge but on A, what the client values it at and B, what your time is actually worth to you.
Important things to factor into your price are your overheads and whether your giving them exclusive rights to the photos as well as having a travel rate to cover your costs (not just gas factor in a bit of car maintenance).
unless its a cashy draft up a wee contract for the client to sign so they're fully aware of the costs etc (maybe get a lawyer to finish it off).
If your really cheeky just get some quotes off photographers for something you think you can do, that way you'll see what the going rate is:D

Remember the charge out rate for a vehicle to cover all costs is around $1.10 per km at the moment, then add an hourly rate on top for your time. A 400km round trip= $440 + hourly rate while traveling which maybe at an agreed lower hourly rate just for travel, say five hours and it soon adds up.
Wedding packages= a lot of hours. Meet and greet before say two hours, wedding day itself, what, eight hours?, PP after the event? 1G seems pretty cheap to me.
