I know you're all probably very protective of your rigs, but would anyone like to post a pic of their set up? or perhaps describe it to me? I do a lot of car photography, but have resisted using a rig until now. I have a big job in Queenstown next week, and need to set something up.
I'm reluctant to strap something to this car, if I'm gonna mess it or my camera up.
any help would be much appreciated, as I need to go hire the bits and pieces tomorrow.
Cheers!
Mark
p.s. here is a car shot so this topic isnt a total bore :)

Mark,
He is a site of a guy in Aussie, it shows set ups of a rig, and some cool shots with it.

John has definatly got some great tips on there! He used to have a lot of case studies on lighting but seems to have taken them down.
Ive put my rig a C5 vet with no hassles, just dont polish the car before hand and bring a shammy ( sorry spelling ) and a bottle of water.
Also to save you alot of post try get a shot of the car with the same composition as your rig shot without the rig on the car. I've make up a special bracket to hold my camera in the same position while i remove the rig :D
If your worried about the rig falling off get an assistant or the owner, then its their fault if something breaks :D
You can borrow my rig if you'd like :p
Oh yeah, your lucky bugger, thats a mean car, very jelous!
i got mine setup from reading this post, heaps of info

the problem is getting the part, the manfrotto pump cup took 2 months to get here, and the most important tip is to find the best quality/lighest aluminium pole around :)
i thought about building a carbon pole (similar to what they use in fishing rod, but a lot thicker) but couldn't justifice the price.

thanks heaps for the advice guys, I've decided to put off using a rig until i have a bit more time to organize one properly, and have actually tried it out.
Also, its just myself, a driver and the car, so not really any room to carry the gear :(
Not shooting the car in the pic above, I shot that a month or two ago.
I'll be working with something even better :)

You could look out for a cheap windsurfer as the masts are usually made from carbon fibre :)

Cheap and carbon fibre don't usually belong in the same sentence :p.
You could probably build one out of aluminium tubing.
Try hit up Steel and Tube (http://www.steelandtube.co.nz/page/home.aspx) or Ullrich Aluminium (http://www.ullrich.co.nz/) for some lengths of tube?

Mine made of 20mm box section steel if i remember correctly and its still pretty light. And theres no movement in it at all. Cost me peanuts aswell. The most expensive thing on mine is the manfrotto head lol. I'll post a photo when i can.
