Hi just something I thought about.
When shooting in private owned property e.g. carparks, etc do you guys just go in there and shoot and wait till security comes and hassles you or do you ask for permission first?
I've kind of gone by the "don't ask for permission, just beg for forgiveness" technique and it's worked most of the time. Im usually pretty good to the security guard and I explain what Im doing. They normally just let me get on with my business. Obviously this depends on if the security guard is on a power trip, etc.
How do you guys all deal with it? Would like to hear some experiences, comments, etc (Y)

I haven't really done much photography on private property so can't really comment.
Did have some German tourists who thought it was ok to drive right up our drive ( about 100m) open our gate, drive into our yard and take some photos of our house without asking! We were too gobsmacked to do anything so we just sort of stood on the deck and looked on with our jaws dropping! It was a little surreal actually.

Oh I don't mean intrusion of people's private property. More like public places that are "private" such as carparks, industrial areas, rubbish dumps, etc :). Would never jump someones fence and take photos on someones front lawn :p

i have had a bit of this issue, it can depend on were you are, and how you present yourself, alot of the time i have had no issues, have a good chat with them, even had them ask to be in photos. . . not sure why hahaha. . . even had the police and they generally sweet with it.
did get told to move on from the train station in auckland though but that was ok, they were nice about it.

i have had all sorts of different experience, good and bad, its all depends on the person i guess. but normally when they see my lights and my support crews they are a little more forgivin.
the best one i ever had was from a security guard that who was really interesting on what we were doing so he stayed and chat during the whole shoot, which was kinda good as that carpark was kinda dodgy.
normally if its for a big shoot out, i will definitely go and get permission first, either walk in or send them a email. not many carparks are keen to lend out their space in auckland tho (unless you offer a good amount of $$$, i had one asked $2k @!$^%$#% for the whole nite lol )

Shooting on private property without permission is a big nono and is just plain and simple trespassing, shooting AT private property from a public space is fine.

I've been pretty lucky so far, never had any bad experiences, even when shooting a car right in front of the prison gates :p
