Hi everyone =]

I am new and found this forum, was looking through some of the post and found them very helpful ^.^

I'm in my last year of uni studying fine arts and I really want to start assisting but I'm not too sure where to start? I have been putting myself out there for some photographers but jobs seem hard to get when you're inexperienced =[

Any advice?

Thanks

welcome hanue,

what area of photography are you aiming to get into?

how are you going about putting your portfolio out? emails or in person?
i take it you are tailoring your portfolio to catch the eye of the market you are aiming for? be it wedding or fashion etc.

Thanks a lot! At the moment I'm working with Aaron Maclean but it is more of a volunteer job.

I'm not exactly too sure what field I plan on going into, just thought I'd try out for everything to learn some tip and tricks =]

paid assisting jobs are going to be a big ask in NZ. Try working your way through the StudioLighting.net (http://www.studiolighting.net/) podcasts.

These are 30 minute plus downloadable mp3 files that feature interviews with some of the best professional photographers (mostly) in America. I have learned some really cool tricks there. I tend to download the mp3 file, and listen to them while driving, or just on my iPod.
