Hi all, as I posted before I'm planning to buy a DSLR soon, prob. the 40d. I now need to know what lenses I should buy, preferably below $1500. I already have a 75-300mm lens and a 17-85mm lens, and I'm into bird photography, so I'll need another telephoto lens.
Cheers

Chris

The only thing i can think of is the sigma 120-500mm but its about $1750ish On a 1.6x crop body the zoom will be excellant at 800mm or 1600mm with a 2x convertor though you will lose your AF i believe

sorry about interupting, but Cory Varcoe, any chance you could explain this to me, or point me in the right direction? as to why the zoom will be excellant at these two point really. cheers

When i say excellant, i mean the fact that the focal length will be increased to 800mm because of the cropped sensor in the camera (as all lenses focal lengths are noted as a 35mm film equivilent, as far as i'm aware), which will be an excellant focal length for bird photography because you dont have to get as close, i dunno about image quality though as i hasnt used the lens. But i have read good things about it.

hope this helps if not let me know! :D

For $1500 id keep an eye out for a second hand 400f5.6L ,super sharp and super fast focusing and light as a feather, well almost that light :)
