Hi guys,

I am new to photography but have been lucky enough to score myself a 60D which I have been really enjoying coming to grips with. Now that I've had it a few months, I have realised the limitations of my kit lens (18-55) and would like to invest in some better lenses.

My main interests so far are:

Filming bands - I run a band website (findaband.co.nz) and would like to start doing HD videos of the best bands on the site. Ideally for this I'd like something that can film the entire band at once from relatively close up (so a wide angle I guess) and I'm happy to spend quite a bit to get something really good since this is a business investment.

Photographing bands - Something good for shooting outdoor promo shots.

Filming and photographing my baby daughter - she's just turned 1 and I'm trying to get as much footage/as many images of her as possible. So something really high quality (and presumably pricey) is fine for this too.

Shooting bands performing live - low light, fast moving subject.

Travel - I intend to start doing a few months overseas a year from 2012 onwards and would like to document my travels with a lens that is well suited to travel photography. I don't really know quite what I'm after for this but I guess something that can do the landscape thing, and something else that is good for "general" photography (i.e. capturing moments in the street etc), whatever that may be!

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to your advice.

jackinavox could give you some good advice and as you are able to spend some good money it will be even easier :D

To record in low light you will need fast lenses.
Id go for sigma 20mm f1.8 (about as fast as you can get for being that wide), sigma 50mm f1.4, sigma 85 f1.4 , and maybe a Canon 70-200 f2.8
Id just like to also point out , that the lenses and camera , will only be half the cost (if that) of getting good video.

I'd like to add, if you're shooting video of bands, a decent tripod would be handy.

For shooting stills i've been using a 50mm f1.4, but have to set the ISO quite high, at around 1600-3200 ISO to get decent shoots without a flash. You may find 50mm too 'tight' on your 60D if you're close to the stage though.
