Yep, and I've got a little plan for a "special" shot if the clouds could stay away ...

And promised, no cow will be hurt in the making of that shot ! :envy:
Yes, tomorrow night...moon is at perigee, closest approach (about 50,000km closer)...30% brighter and 14% bigger...
Moon rise is 5.23pm
Here's tonight's...

Well to be precise the Full Moon will be at perigee tomorrow. Otherwise our old satellite reaches perigee once every 27.5 days ... ;)
And don't forget to adjust the rising time to your location !

Well, yes and no...while it goes through a 'monthly' cycle, it also has a yearly cycle which sees it progress from a maximum distance to a minimum distance from the earth...minimum distance is today...and, it's a full moon too...
"The moon that rises in the night sky tonight will be at the year’s closest point to the Earth — called the lunar perigee — and will appear larger than usual." - Carol Stewart, a program presenter and NASA/Jet Propulsion Lab solar system ambassador.

OK let's try to be thorough once and for all on this matter, no point going on with it for ages : today's perigee is the closest perigee for this Earth's orbit around the Sun, the other 12 perigees being further, and it falls almost perfectly for the full phase while last month's perigee was 21 hours short of the full phase. But there's no such thing as a Moon's yearly cycle otherwise the closest perigee or moon phases would always fall at the same time of the year just like the solstice and equinox ! It is from an Earth's heliocentric orbit point of view that the Moon presents a 13+ orbits per year with a perigee and apogee for each, but each year things are different due to the differences in Moon and Earth orbital periods. ;)
Anyway, fingers crossed the clouds will clear otherwise we'll be stuffed for the show in Christchurch ... :(
Ok...whatever...closest this year is good enough for me...;)

Lol, as you say : whatever ! :envy:
And I like your 2nd shot. (Y) I wish the clouds could have cleared a bit more here, I had to ditch Plan A, Plan B and Plan C !!! :(:( I wanted to "stick" the Moon at the very tip of the Port Hills' TV antenna with different size ratios but ... :(
Thanksfully I gave myself a lecture on perigees, so potentially an other 7 or 8 tries ahead ! :p
Fair 'nuff...
This morning...
