Cheers Jay,

we showed up to plimmerton some little road way to the beach, there was already a photographer on the beach, so i shot off the seat using my camera bag as a tripod ( forgot to take the tripod to Wellington hahaha )

it was shot with my 10-20 and used a ND09 filter over it. it was super purple so had to adjust the colors to get close as i could to what it was like.

this is more what the sky was like. no filter used on this one.

Sure...

It's a compilation of two photos.

First exposed for foreground, second for the sky.

Both were shot raw, and 'edited' in Photoshop to remove the yellow tint from the lights a bit and restore the natural colour.

First was f 5.6, 8 sec at ISO640 (manual, on tripod)

Second was f 5.6, 33 sec ISO640 (manual on tripod)

If you can't visually check it in your range finder, why don't take a shot before starting your long exposure to check your focusing ? O_o

Umm, not that i know of! All it was, was a bit of white card behind the glass which i bounced my 580EXII off (did it in pitch black with flash), and used a 24-105mm at 105mm.. As i said very very simple setup.. Want to get a macro lens to try some water drop collisions or something! I've seen some pretty impressive stuff.

Loving my 100mm F2!

How's the focus speed and sharpness wide open? Did you try out the 85mm f1.8?

I'm wanting a telephoto prime but the 135mm f2 is just a bit out of reach at the moment.

I love the speed of the AF. It doesn't seem to miss much and when it does I see why.. it's me. It is so accurate and beautiful. It is quite sharp wide open. All of my wow shots less maybe 3-5 have been with this lens.

I haven't tried the 85 yet. Am wanting too really bad. I do find a lot of times the 100mm is a tad long and find myself wanting to try to 85 more and more. I am waiting for photo and video int'l to get one used so I can try it out, or find a photo club to join and maybe try it there.

Was considering changing out to a 35mm f2 and 85 1.8 in leiu of my 50 1.8 and 100 f2.

hey thanks for the comments, im not sure what u mean by barrel distortion, but are you meaning the curves of the sea at the horizon? i kinda like the feel the curves gives the image, but im also not sure on how to get rid of the"barrel distortion" if that is what you mean :)

Yeah, that's what I mean. Lightroom and CS5 both have lens presets loaded in that correct any distortion or you can do it manually. In CS5 it's under 'lens correction' in the filter menu. Can't remember where it is in Lightroom but easy enough to find.

It's all a bit of photo-trickery, using layers and filters...no actual vector graphics at all...

My Illustrator skills are all but nonexistent...i spend too much time in Photoshop ;)
