Recently iv been watching Chris Orwigs Dvd of light room 2

I'm just wondering if anyone use's or has any thoughts on .DNG file format does anyone use it or have any input on it

From what iv read about is the file size with the dng file format is smaller than a raw , and also photos converted to dng look more dull than a RAW file , but since i don't have a camera that shoots in raw i cant see this for my self

The main reason for the dng file is to preserve your images because some where down the track 5 or 50 years the raw file format might be obsolete how likely is this?

I havent had a play yet but it looks like i'm going to have to start using it with the 5d2 as CS3 doesnt support the new RAW format and CS4 is crap so i'm going to have starting using .DNG format :(

Im using RAW (canon D60) and CS3, so not worrying about this at the moment. Probably should, but eh..

Have used DNG once, but found it looked worse than saving as a similar size jpeg file. So I do RAW's and then process and save as jpegs - which gives me previews (RAW cant do previews) and scalablity/compatbility for web. The RAW's are what I would refer back to if I wanted say a tiff or png file - recompile it again. Since there is no preview for RAW's, I won't accidently use it and resave with changes - this would be done to the jpegs, but probably would prefer to go back to raw, and recompile with any changes.
