Hi guys, i have a Canon 550D Camera, and i am wondering what a decent macro lens would be, I like to do general photography but i would like to take some macros of insects etc.
Just a bit curious as where to go from here, any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
David

They are all decent lenses, when doing macro you will be manual focusing, so make sure they have a reasonable focus ring.
You can go for the Canon, Tamron, or sigma EF mount lenses, or you can go for extension tubes .
The image quality from each macro lenses is pretty much on par with the other.
ps I have a Canon 100 f2.8 USM macro lens on trademe at the moment.

Cant be a nuisance either way, but could be helpful, i mean you can just turn it off if you didn't want it, and its also an L series lens.

Another thing to remember when doing macro work, you will more than likely need a strobe to light the subject. Why? Because you are shooting at f16-32 , if you arent using a strobe you will have to bump up your ISO to 800+ to have a reasonable shutter speed eg 1/500, where if you are using a strobe you can shoot at a low ISO and a shutter speed of about 1/200 or less.
