Hey guys anyone know where I can get some gels for strobes from??
Only thing I saw on trademe was if you brought it with barn doors or other gear.
And I couldn't find any when I was searching on nz websites that stock photography gear.
I just want to be able to clip it in front of a strobe to make a wall blue.
Tried some of that stuff from a stationary shop but it starts to burn.
Anyone know?
Thanks.

I use a Lee filters sample pack for that sort of thing. I got it free at a TV trade show thing in the UK. Can't find much like that in New Zealand though. The closest I can find is this (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/Camera-accessories/Flashes-lighting/auction-376234972.htm) on Trade Me which has far fewer gels and more useful for balancing ambient and flash than for creating interesting colours on backgrounds.

You could always pay to get this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/30-x-Lee-Filter-Flash-Gels-STROBIST-Speedlight-DIY-/150605690735?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_ CameraFlashUnits_JN&hash=item2310cc776f) imported. Shouldn't cost too much. There are usually plenty of similar things on ebay but I can't seem to find any with the quick search I just did.

Hey thanks Lazlo,
But prob will need a bigger one for a strobe though. Strange that I can't find any on a website in nz I might just have to try cut a sprite bottle in half and go for a green wall..... :S

Try any of the firms that handle stage lighting.

Are you using hot lights or strobes ?
Are you using the reflector on the lights when using the gel from the stationary shop?

Hey Redal,

Strobes. I used cellophane from the stationary on my 580ex once and it blew a hole through it so thinking it won't last long on my strobe.
Yes standard reflector on strobe light then I will just clip the cellophane to the end of it. See how it goes tomorrow.

if there is a good bit of gap between the lamp and the cellophane, it may not melt the cellophane as the heat may have dispurst enough, but that would depend on how big the reflector is hahaha :P

Oh yeah, I assumed it was for speedlights sorry! Should have read more carefully.

These should do the trick (http://www.leefilters.com/lighting/products/packs/category:Lighting%20Packs/). There appears to be a dealer in Wellington, though the website seems to link to an asian one with no mention of gels. There's a New Zealand phone number and email address that are probably worth a try though.
