2009-02-19: Nearly three hundred concerned citizens marched on Parliament in Wellington, New Zealand to protest the so-called "Guilt on Accusation" section (s92a (http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2008/0027/latest/DLM1122643.html?search=ts_act_copyright_resel#DLM1 122643)) of the Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment Act 2008 (NTCAA). The protest was organized by the Creative Freedom Foundation (http://creativefreedom.org.nz/) (CFF) in order to present a signed petition to a representative of the New Zealand Government.
Bronwyn Holloway-Smith of the CFF addressed the protesters and media outlining the CFF's reasoning and concerns around the section due to take effect on the 28th February.
Mrs Holloway-Smith then presented the collected petition to the Right Honorable Peter Dunne (http://www.beehive.govt.nz/minister/peter+dunne), minister of revenue. Mr Dunne addressed those present with acknowledgment of the CFF's concerns and undertook to present the petition to Parliament at that afternoon's sitting. Mrs Holloway-Smith also presented a copy of The Copywrong (http://creativefreedom.org.nz/copywrong.html) Song to Mr Dunne, while husband and co-founder of the CFF, Mr Matthew Holloway, distributed copies to the protesters and media.
Mrs Holloway-Smith thanked Mr Dunne and discussed strategy for managing some of the implications for the changes in copyright law.
MP Claire Curran then addressed those present, outlining a proposal for further amending the copyright act and undertaking to present this proposal to parliament. Mrs Curran discussed more detail of her proposal with Mrs Holloway-Smith.
