I have been very tempted by this D7000 too but the problem is i am using a D90. From D90 to D7000 you don't really see that much of a difference in image quality. The high ISO performance they talk about in D7000 is going to be minimal unless i shoot in pitch black darkness all the time (i don't). Some review even say the image sharpness is a bit better in D90 than D7000 although Ken Rockwell will disagree (Ken is a big Nikon supporter).

Tim, if i were you and have 10K set aside for your next toy i will wait a while longer for the new D700 to be realeased. The current D700 is 2.5 years old. Knowing Nikon, i think all they are waiting for is for Canon to release the 5D Mark 3, then Nikon will launch the new D700 (D700s?) to compete. That has always been the way things go when it comes to the Nikon-Canon war. The good news is, my friend who works at Canon Sydney said the Canon 5d Mk3 is already sitting in their storerooms but they are waiting for final orders from their HQ before they are allowed to market them. I have a feeling the new Nikon D700 won't be far away. You don't have that many DX lens currently, so when you go full frame with the new D700 you won't loose compatibility with lens, you can build up your full frame kit from scratch. If you plan to shoot wedding i don't think D7000 will do enough for you. Just my opinion.

really... 5dmk3 already delivered?

hmmmm...

i agree with kazedan, don't bother going crop because you know you will go full frame eventually. i stopped buying bodies after the 50d and will now just save up for a 5D after i'm finished buying lenses.

Yes. I have very reliable inside news. Canon 5D Mark III is already sitting in their storerooms, you just can't buy it yet since Canon is still sorting out some stuffs and has not been given greenlight to launch yet. But i'd say you need to save up quick jackinavox because your new toy is coming!!

cool, i doubt i can afford the mk3 right away. the idea is to look out for the run-out sales of the mk2.

..unless of course the price is so good that there is no choice but to buy :)

I get what you mean when you said "feel dirty". I had my house robbed once few years ago. Once i stepped in my house i saw the door ajar, more lights on than how i left them, coins on the floor. I knew something was wrong, ran upstairs to living room, playstation gone, CD collections gone, Stereo gone. Called police in, they stepped in for barely 5 mins and totally uninterested, told me there is nothing they can do and didn't even bother with prints. Sometimes you wonder what exactly are the police interested in? Dishing out speeding ticket?

whats wrong with the d700 ? if they are releasing an upgrade then its the best time to buy a d700, its it were me i would go for a 5d2 any day over the extra $$$ for the mk3. the 5d 2 is an amazing cam and so is the d700 "why want the way more expency upgrade" when im sure itl do way more than you need anyway???

PureKiwi

You would think so but no there a rumor that if the replacement comes out it will have HD movies , if that happens id get the new version if it doesn't ill stick with the plain D700

Hi, I was thinking about upgrading to a Nikon D300s, looked up the D7000 and now I don't know which way to go... the D7000 looks quite good to me in comparison.

The other thing iv noticed too look like Nikon is under cutting the imported ones this time around , on photo.co.nz they are around 200-500 cheaper than on trade me

ArtiSaNZ (http://www.photographersonline.co.nz/member.php?u=735) i would personally go for the D7000 its got great ISO range really great in low light , and your gainging alot more mega pixels and what not , and the D7000 is cheaper than D300s , the only upside to the D300s in my opinion is the 7fps , everything about both cameras are great both have there use's

I agree with Pure Kiwi. Ken Rockwell has written a new review on D7000 on his site and named it the best DX Nikon so far. If you don't care about the 7fps D7000 is the way to go.

Yes and for Ken to say that is pretty big he has been a lover of the D40 for years,

1 fps isn't much to lose

they're in most stores now. $2400 seems to be the body only price now.
