As title says i need a bag , i carry my camera every where yes every where even to the shop 2 mins down the road ,

So im after a bag that will fit the following

D40x ( with battery grip )
70-200 2.8 lens
50 1.8D lens
17-55 2.8 lens

it would be great if i didn't have to take the bag completely off to get my camera out

im a fan of the crumpler shoulder bags, had a 6mill home, now have a bazzilion home.
current one hold my 50D gripped, sigma 12-20, sigma 15-55, sigma 70-200, 2 flashes with room for 1 more, my flash triggers, chager, cables, batterys and has a bit more space.
with some rearranging can fit a 1000D in there aswell hahaha.

this does however make the bag quite heavy when fully packed.

I have quite a good backpack, and also a pelican breifcase. The problem with both is weight, but I dont like the inaccessability of the backpack.

I am currently thinking about going for either a shoulder bag like this

or a front pack like this

The pelican case is great for travelling (planes etc), but after trying to carry it around Sydney for 3 days I found it too much of a burden weight wise and akwardness wise

I use Kata DR-465. Reasonably priced and solidly built. Fits my Nikon D90 with a midrange zoom attached plus a telezoom, a ultrawide angle and a 50mm normal lens. That all goes in the bottom padded compartment. The top pocket fits other accessories like lens hoods, batteries, cords, flashguns etc.

I've got two bags, one backpack for longer and extensive use, and a shoulder bag for more casual shooting.

Both can fit my camera + grip, with 24-70 and 70-200 (one of them mounted) and another lens/flash.

Backpack:

Shoulder:

I really like both bags, because you can choose which one depending on what you're doing. The Think Tank is the easiest to access by far, and it has 'silencers' to mute the sounds of the bag opening (ie good for weddings). Plus it doesn't look like a camera bag as such, just a massive satchel :D The lowepro is also made well, and has plenty of space in there.

Of note though, I used to have a Lowepro Slingshot 300AW. That was able to fit a 70-200 with camera and grip attached. But I sold it in the end, with that weight it ended up killing my shoulder. As with the Think tank, at least I can change sides with it.

My advice is, is decide on what you want to use the bag for. I've found there is no "do it all" solution, but you can find a decent bag to keep your gear in for the meantime. I also recommend having some silica gel packs in the bag to act as a desiccan in the bag too.

Good luck bag hunting!

yup after a few hours with the lowpro sling on one shoulder (can't switch) it does start to become a pain.

i really want a bag that doesn't scream 'camera gear inside'

the crumpler looks good, but the internal pockets for odds and sodds just doesn't seem easy to get into quickly. will have to look at the thinktank.

My favorite walk around bag is my Lowepro Flipside 200 because I can get my gear out swinging it off one shoulder and if I want to put it down on something like the ground, the part that sits against your back is the opening so it doesn't get dirty placing that side down and also feels more secure having the opening part against my back while walking around.
I manage to fill it with an DSLR, 70-200 f/2.8 L, 24-105 f/4 L, 10-22 and have even been known to squeeze a flash in as well at times.
The Flipside 400 is great is you need more room and it does not stand out too much as a camera bag like some of the others in this capacity range.

I have two camera bags. A backpack and a shoulder sling bag.
They are both caselogic. The backpack has heaps of square pockets inside that you can adjust the sizes of for different lenses and flashes. The top of the bag opens up and the camera sits in a sling so has no impact on it . The front on the bag zips open to access the lenses and has a waterproof hard bottom so it stands on its own when on the ground. Also has straps on the side to hold my tripod.

my other bag has the same sling to hols the camera inside and has pockets on both sides for lenses. it also has a waterproof base as well.

I just bought a Lowepro Flipside 200. It's about the same size as the Slingshot but better for big lenses, and by some accounts I read more comfortable. I bought it to hold a D700 with 70-200 attached. It should snugly fit all the gear you listed Purekiwi. There's a 300 version too if you want more room.

The only problem is the zip is on the side closest to your back so you have to take it off to open, but everything is nicely laid out and accessible once you do.

Out of the half a dozen camera bags I own this one is by head and shoulders my favourite walkaround bag due to its size and comfort.
