I actually really like the power lines and pole/sign post. If anything the lines could be stronger, but that AA sign post, even in silhouette is such a New Zealand icon. It's a nice element.

napier beach shot and the very first shot i like.... but the rest ( or at least most of them) are too dark/boring....

if i were to shoot the rock +water one in your first post i would change the angle to lower i think it might look a little better.

( next time can you please use normal size photos? )

Fair enough. Could you elaborate on the boring part? Just saying they are boring isn't real constructive. Do you find the subject boring, or the composition lacking or what? I could get a bit more shadow detail out of the 2nd one but the rest are pretty well exposed I thought, at least on this monitor, I get so much variation depending on what computer I am on.

if i were to shoot the rock +water one in your first post i would change the angle to lower i think it might look a little better.

Tripod was on its lowest setting, about 25cm off the rocks.

( next time can you please use normal size photos? )

What do you mean? I resize to 1024 along the long side so they fit on like 90% of monitors. With the forum sidebar tho probably 800 would be better.

what do i mean?

500 x 333 are much better for on screen viewing and better for smaller monitors for those who have laptops....

or 800 x 532 for larger ones...

i did elaborate and tell you how i would shoot SOME of them........

boring= but the rest ( or at least most of them) are too dark/boring....

how to shoot =-if i were to shoot the rock +water one in your first post i would change the angle to lower i think it might look a little better.

in saying that... i do like the rocks+water... i think that this sort of subject is pretty cool on longer exposures and such things.

I love the Napier Shot but would have liked to see it positioned more to the left. to bring bluff hill into the 1/3 line

Yeah I see that my 1024 long side ones are a bit large for this forum, I am used to resizing for a different site where the images are viewd on their own not in line with text and things, I shall try to err closer to the 800 length on here (have resized the photos on here in my photobucket now). I find 500 length to be too small to fully appreciate often, I don't want to make everyone squint at my photos just to make a few netbook users happy ;)

I love the Napier Shot but would have liked to see it positioned more to the left. to bring bluff hill into the 1/3 line

Yeah I have several regrets with that shot. I wish I had dialed the exposure down a bit so it wasn' so blown on the right, and composed it a bit more carefully including a bit more of the shore like you suggest, oh well, Ill have to make another mission next time I am staying with the in-laws.

Great photos!

Cheers :D

Here are some pics from a different weekend photo expedition, this time to Wellington.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/bigelboe/Photography/harbour.jpg

This is one of my favourite but doesn't seem to appeal to others that much.

Some old boatyards down by an old Naval Base in Mirimar.

Massey Memorial at first light.

Ill just pretend this one is a landscape so I don't have to start a new thread ;)

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/bigelboe/Photography/Kapiti1.jpg

From the lookout above Kapiti on the way home, pretty nice day :o

Ugh just noticed that the images have horrible resizing artifacts now from photobuckets resizing :td: The bottom one was sharp, I swear :D

Some more photos from yesterday on a drive North. What really amazes me about this country is all but the last photo were taken within about 50m of SH1, the 3rd 4th and 5th were taken sitting directly underneath a SH1 bridge on the desert road :D

Hi Tom, The first picture was taken at 17mm on a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. I used a very cheap polarising filter to get a bit of extra saturation in the sky and grass, cost me about $10 brand new including shipping from ebay.

hey bigelboe, been looking to getting that tamron lens, etown has them around $500. you rate it?

hey bigelboe, been looking to getting that tamron lens, etown has them around $500. you rate it?

Its a fantastic lens for the price, great having constant f2.8, and its a good range of focal lengths, it rearly leaves my camera. The only negative is the size and weight, quite a bit bigger than the kit lens if thats what you are replacing.

That price seems almost suspiciously cheap tho, I got it for $690 a few months ago from einfo.co.nz, got the last one before the price increase due to the exchange rate, and that was the cheapest price I could find in NZ.

EDIT: It would appear they have a store, jump on it at that price thats a freaking amazing deal!

Massey Memorial at first light.
I finally got around to lugging my camera up here this afternoon. Weather (clouds) wasn't ideal for what I wanted but I think both the shots should be alright. It'll be an interesting comparison anyway. Just need a couple more sheets now so I can develop them.

etown is one of the orignal parallel importers in nz. I would never deal with einfo again!! Twice I have gone to pick something up they said they had and didnt have it just so they could say they were the cheapest on priceme. Aparantly its commen as with them

Went for a walk to a place I've been many times before but never with a tripod lol, he's a couple of shots I took. Never really played with long exposure before so not bad for a first off outing I thought.

Yeah, stick with the coloured one IMO (Y)

I prefer the colour, although something strange is going on with it, looks like youve flattened out the contrast too much or something.

jakedarwen your pics are very well executed, what media are they on? I find the subject matter a little cliche, but I don't know what the aims/requirements for your assignment were.
