Hello all,
Can anybody help me with some color management issues pleeeeeeease? :)
Using the 'correct path' I just don't seem to be able to get my on screen (LCD Samsung 2233) images to look like those that come off Kens Camera's (ChCh) Kodak Pegasus LED II printer. I have calibrated my monitor three times already and must assume I have done this correctly and the problem lies elsewhere.
I believe this to be the case as I have found that I can get my images on screen to match my prints, but by assigning my calibrated monitor profile as my working space??? And apparently this is not something that should be done.
I know this is a subject on which there is a huge amount of info on the net - but I seem to be getting absolutely nowhere and I so want to be getting my images into prints - maybe the above hides a clue as to what it is I'm doing wrong?

you are right here, this should not be done. You will need to use adobe98, srgb or prophoto but not your monitor profile.

When you say it matches your own prints, have you calibrated your printer too?
on screen (LCD Samsung 2233)
No matter what working space you use, you will find that your screen is only capable of displaying colours in the srgb space, so if the printer is capable of colours outside of sRGB then you wont see it on your screen, which could be the case.
If you can get hold of the profile that they use for the printer you may also be able to give soft proofing a try.
Out of interest, what are you using to calibrate your monitor?

Thank you very much for your reply Canvart (Y):D(Y)
I certainly wish to be using Adobe98 as my working space, as this seems to be the preferred and correct path and out of my K10D it's the profile I'm using.
The monitor has been calibrated using an Eye-One Match 3 and the printer is a Kodak Pegasus LED II - the professional printer at Kens Cameras ChCh.
My problem is that even with the monitor calibration done and using Adobe98 as my working space, the image file veiwed in photoshop and the printed image appear quite different. Now I should point out that the real difference seems to be the gamma. The colours although lighter, appear correct - but I'm seeing much more shadow detail on the screen.
Now something else that may be of help - the monitor profile I created to give a match between file and print (only when used as my working space) has a gamma of 3.0!
(I also created a profile with the standard 2.2 as well) But only by using a gamma of 3.0 for the monitor profile - then using this as my working space can I get file and print to match!?
Cheers,
Pete

Yep if you are using it in your camera, I would definitely recommend using it as your colour space.
Just out of interest, what is your luminance and colour temperature set to?
Having profiled printers here, I am happy to help you try and isolate where it is going wrong, so if you want to send me a file I can print it for you and you can check that against your screen

Thanks again Canvart :D
I've looked for the screen shot that Eye-One said would be saved of the 'end screen' once all the calibration was complete but cannot find it anywhere. From memory the color temp was 6500k and the luminance was 120(?). Not that it will mean much I guess but the monitor Brightness ended up set at 64/100 and contrast at 100/100.
Can I attach a file here or should I email it to you?
Cheers

Sometimes simple is best. Try the printer setting "Let printer determine color space" or words to that effect.
Sometimes, the narrower color space SRGB produces more vibrant photos.
Wouldn't hurt to try.
