Up late, took some pics

hi guys, i never got a D90 :( brother needed to borrwo some money, so i got a sony A350

so i was bored last night after a movie, so went and took some photos.

i have converted them to jpeg, i dont have photoshop or anything, so there havnt been adjusted till i buy a copy. but any ideas of how i can improve my shots would be helpfull.

also, how do i reduse the affect of the light on the lense like in pic 6, 8 and 9
i think its glear? but im not sure how to reduce it :(

its called lens flare, did you have a lens hood on?

the lens hood i had on is only really short, maby bout 1cm beyond the lens

Any camera is good! at least you have one, think of the kids in Africa... bla bla. I am just working on the composition of my images right now so gear doesn't really matter. Just try to be happy with what you've got :)

Anyway, if you can't get photoshop yet you might want to try out Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) its probably the best open source (free) image editing software out there at the moment. I'm using it at the moment as I haven't got PS eithar. You can do all the basic photo editing techniques that PS can do... Changing levels, healing tools, blur, colours, curves, contrast and add vignette to your images. There are a lot more functions but I just haven't figured it all out yet, its quite robust.

If you decide to do this let me know and I can teach you how to use the basic functions of it, theres also plenty of guides on the net if you look around for Gimp tutorials :)

I find black cars extremely hard to shoot especially in really low light. You can't bring out the detail unless you have good lighting or flashes.

You will need to work on your composition and maybe do some cropping and white balance adjusting at least.

ok, here is ur problem, the lens hood that u got isn't enough to avoid the lens flare, but thats okay, not the end of the world. another simple solution will be using a circular polarised filter, but usin cp filter at night means that you will need longer shutter to expose the car currectly and it might increase noise in pic.

i can see your ideas beyond some of those shots, and to be honest the first 3 pics could end up very nice with a bit more thinkin of composition and correct lightin.

for example, the first pic had pretty interesting background lightin, different colours, and cool building. if i was shooting a car there, i would shoot the car a bit lower, tilt up, zoom in a little more, park the car on more angle so u kind of see the car like this angle http://dfimages.smugmug.com/photos/566442712_GyJwV-M.jpg

bare in mind a black car is very hard to shoot, so just be patient and keep trying. i have been shootin cars for a little while and a lot of times i still struggle to get it right. its a lot harder than what ppl think, and needs a lot of practises and ultimately a lot of gears :D

btw, i have a Sony.. thought i would be the lone-sony SLR user lol! everyone seems to have a nikon or a cannon haha :)

hahaha, it seems to be a nice camrea, i am happy with it.

i have the 18 -70 and the 55 - 200 lenses. i got the twin lens kit.
just picked up a CP filter, so carnt wait to play with that tonight :)
