hi guys

i moved out of home .and my nikon d80 got pinched .never even had time to get insurance.

any way ive been looking at something quick im still really a begiinner/ish

but was looking

450d?

d90?

would that be a step up or down?

they managed to not see the battery on charge and the 18-55 mm lense in bag

i hate theives

my budget will probably be a grand at this stage thanks

Sorry to hear about that!!!

Seem you already have a nikon lens then it would make sense to stick with nikon unless you can sell it and add that to your budget. If the batteries are the same on the 90 as they are on the 80 then thats another bonus!

I don't know too much about the nikons but from what i a gather with the d90 you get more megapixels, bigger lcd screen etc so i don't think either option (canon or nikon) would be a step down. Maybe a nikon nut could tell you more.

Also go into a camera shop and try both cameras, they are very accommodating if they think they can make a sale... funny that :p

I just got a D90 myself and am happy with it. Although being a novice i don't have much to compare with coming from an old point and shoot compact.
Also consider the D5000 if you want essentially the same hardware as the D90 but for less $$. Check here for an interesting recommendation for the D5000 - http://www.kenrockwell.com/ Interesting site generally.
