Hi folks,

So dampness and moisture is a common problem here in NZ due to our substandard houses, yes?

How do you care for your camera equipment to ensure they are stored in optimum conditions at all times?

I've heard the use of a 'dry box' for home storage is good, but i can't seem to find anyone that sells them (not that i've looked hard).

Any advice? :)

Cheers
J

not sure, i guess the normal stuff, if it gets wet, get it dry properly. try not get it wet lol

that will reduce the moisture in you bag/storage place. maybe it may pay to properly clean and dry any bags and stuff every couple of months, depending how much you get out?

so i've bough 2 x 1/2 kg packs of silica gel (overkill) and i'm using a thick plastic box with a lid as my 'dry box'. lined the box with the silica packs and store cameras, lenses, batteries and memory cards inside.

have bought smaller packs for the camer bags which i leave open in a well ventilated room when not in use.

invested in good cleaning gear too: blower, cloth, lenspen..

got the 1/2 kg packs from trademe, then went to a local gunstore and they gave me a whole bunch of 10gm packets for free.

Don't leave your kit in a bag when your not using it , keeping it in a bag is a sure way to trap condensation and get fungus in your lenses ,
I store all my gear in open shelves at room temperature when not in use .
And remember if you use silica it needs drying out regularly (in an oven on low temperature for 20 min or so )
