right, so i've just been called in last minute to cover a corporate cocktail party tonight.

terms have been agreed upon and all that, but since i've been hired by an organisation, they want me to invoice/bill them.

i'm not yet GST registered, so what's the most legal way to do this?

do i just submit an invoice with my own personal IRD # and then an invoice #.

any thoughts?

You don't need to charge GST (so long as you don't do it too much), just remember to include the income on next years tax return. The business might not like the fact you're not GST-registered, but that's not a big deal, you just need to send an invoice/bill for services that does not include GST. Send me a PM or email if you want to clarify.

From my understanding, you dont have to be GST registered till you earn over $30k per year from your business, a sole trader is the easiest way to run your business when starting , but leaves you personally liable for costs incured by the business.

Just send them an invoice as an individual, like you said in your initial post.
It'll just go towards your own personal income, rather than a businesses
