As I said before, these are only my first attempts so a lot of learning is ahead of me!:embarrassed:

how did you find the lens?

i tried it out a few months ago and it was easier to focus manually than to use the USM auto focus, and it was hard to handhold!

HI jackinavox,

I agree.. The lens is hard to handhold and I have only tried it using manual focus. The photos here are taken from the very first time I got my hands on the lens. Since then I got a bit busy with our newborn along with other things.. I am trying to free up more time and have more test shots in the coming days.. I will let you know how it goes.. But I can at least say that I won't be taking the lens for kids sport sessions or anything like that, AF is quite slow and hunts a lot..

Hi There...the first photo is my pick.
I am keen on macro photography, but have still got to make up my mind what camera to get...then the lens to match...Canon or Nikon... I want really clear close up photos of lichens etc as well as bugs.

Hi there

For what it's worth, recently scored a Canon 100mm 2.8L macro. Would rate this as the best lens I have ever laid my hands on.

I have this lense too, have had it for over a year now, and still sussing it out. For close up things, like bugs etc I can't handhold, I have to use a tripod. I've only got small hands so it's a bit of a struggle to get set up sometimes, and with bugs it's annoying as they move so fast.

It is a lovely lense though, and I've got some great pics with it.

Good day to you all

Sorry it's been a bit busy and I haven't been able to come visit the forum for a while.

Thanks for all who have taken the time to reply to my post. I agree, the first one would be my pick too.

I would love to get more practice with this lens and get better at Macro (when will there be more than 24 hours a day?). I have used it without a tripod but I needed a good light source, i.e. my small home flash set :)

It sure is a great lens! I have also used it for portraits of my 4 months child.. It is great! Very sharp and very nice details, although it is a bit too long for portraits, I mostly take head shots for our Boy with it :)

These (http://www.photographersonline.co.nz/showthread.php?p=10550#post10550) were all taken on the 100mm f2.8 non IS without a tripod, some were AI servo, others were manual. I find AI Servo to be really good especially when crouching or in an awkward position or if my subject isn't near a AF point
