hi folks,
we've been asked to cover a 3 day conference (speeches, workshops, dinner, party), we're expected to be there from start to finish on all 3 days - details of what to capture/cover still to be discussed.
what sort of price should we be asking?
we pretty much got the job but just want to make sure we charge fairly.
any advice would be appreciated as we and the organiser are all new to this.
cheers

Licensing, is how you allow the images to be used/ or length of time they can use the image. So you get fair compensation for you work.
85% of the images i sell are for personal use only, basically they cant be used for advertising or editorial work.
If the images want to be used for other purposes , they need my permission and compensation .

3 day conference, averaging... 8 hours a day? 24 hours of coverage for 3k alone is only $125 an hour.. not to mention and post processing etc.
They'd be getting a good deal for 3k
In related news, fuck having to take photos of something as boring as a conference for 3 full days. :]

'Scuse the language Rick...I am sure there is another word you can use which would more than adequately cover your feelings on the issue and keep your integrity intact!

"Hmm" 3 days "Hmm" I would charge 4.5-4.8K + consumables and Licencing of Images with a 50% deposit balance on completion

just noticed your reply here.
in short we got dicked around, by the organisers, kept us tied up with 'yeah we'll sign a contract soon' for 3 months, then 1 month out from the event, told us they were going with another photographer.
