Hi all

First time poster. I've got a Sigma film camera (SA-9) that I bought years ago with some nice sigma lenses. I put some fresh batteries in it the other day but it's dead - don't know why.
Now I'm thinking about getting buying a Sigma DSLR (SD10 or SD14?) to make use of my lenses (which have the Sigma SA mount), but anyway the lenses will only fit onto a Sigma camera.
Does anyone know of any photo shops in Christchurch that sell Sigma DSLR's? I tried Photo & Video but they don't appear to stock Sigma DSLR's - any other camera shops in ChCh that might have them?
My other option is to try and sell them and get something more mainstream but I don't know what the market is like for used Sigma SA mount lenses - I suppose I could try Trademe:eek:
BTW I have the following:
100-300 Ex IF F4 lens
15-30 Ex IF lens
28-70 EX lens
and a 1.4 Ex Tele Convertor

regards

Tim

The sigma DSLR's use a foveon x3 sensor which works differently from pretty much all other cameras. They only have somethingt like 3-4 megapixels, but because each pixel senses all 3 colours at once they are 3 times more effective than a regualr sensor - so they are sometimes referred to as being equivalent to 10MP or so. From what I've read, their image quality is quite good but the bodies are pretty old now and the features are pretty basic in comparison to more modern stuff. Another advantage of the sigma cameras is that you can easily remove tghe low pass fitler inside the body yourself, enabling the camera to take IR photos without any permanent modifications.

If it was me though, I would get something mainstream just because it is so much easier to find cheap accesories. I'm sure you'll be able to sell your SA lenses, there are probably still quite a few people out there who would like them :)

Considering the hassle you're going to have with finding accessories and sigma mounted lenses, I think you'd be better off selling your collection on Trademe and starting from scratch with a Canon or a Nikon.
